Beer52 are a company offering beer subscriptions, delivering lesser known brews to your door on a monthly basis.
The ales-to-your-doorstep market is very busy at the moment, so businesses looking to grab a decent share of this market need to have something special about them. Luckily for Beer52, they are very, very special.
They asked me to sample their services and sent me 8 different craft ales to help me expand my beer knowledge. This was right up my alley. Over the last 5 or 6 years, I’ve developed a taste for ale and have even made my own. I designed a local brewery’s website, grow hops in my garden and fancy myself as a home-brewer. I was therefore very excited about receiving my box of 8 Christmas-influenced beers. The day of reckoning soon arrived….
The box was well packed. No risk of breakages. My beers had arrived, accompanied by a snack and a copy of ‘Ferment’ magazine, for those interested in brewing and beers. So, what did I get?
Flower Power Hipp Dippy All Things Pretty American Amber from the Flying Dutchman brewery is delicious. I’d never heard of Tettnang hops before but now I’ll be seeking them out.
The Wiper and True Mimosa Berlinner Weisse has the label which captures my attention. It has Beer52 on the label. Could it be that this beer is exclusive to Beer52? The beer has a Christmas spice to it. Lovely!
To Øl’s Fuck Art – The Heathens Are Coming is a wheaty, farmhouse ale style beer with a saison taste to it. An interesting brew.
A Tale of Two Ales here. Santa’s Private Reserve Ale from Rogue Ales is a caramelly ruby/brown beer. Sweet, hoppy and solid.
The next bottle is the most interesting of the lot. Mikkeller’s session IPA is incredible. Pineapple and grapefruit blend without excess bitterness to make an exquisite IPA which I could soak myself in. The label on the back reveals that this came about after a drinking session with Beer52.
So, it’s not just enough for Beer52 to bring you amazing beers. They’re now inspiring and conspiring to make them to. This is what I’m talking about when I say that they’re extra special!
One of Scotland legends Brewdog’s Christmas efforts is Santa Paws, a Scotch Ale. Dark brown, roasted, spicy, fruity. A nice Christmas blend if you like a heavier taste.
Littlebro’s Session IPA by Aegir is a heavenly little can which I’d happily fill my fridge with. Seriously. If anyone from Aegir wants to get in touch and sponsor me to live off this IPA for a month, then I’m sure we could work something out. 😉
Krampus is a “half-goat, half-demon” who, during the Christmas season, punishes children who have misbehaved, in contrast with Saint Nicholas, who rewards the well-behaved with gifts. This drink is that description, but in a bottle. It’s a dark beer but the taste is much lighter. A nice gently spiced beer to relax to while scaring kids into behaving.
It’s a brilliant selection. I’ve had some beer subscription boxes where the variety is just too wide. They try and put in literally one of every beer they can think of. Beer52’s selection is a lot tighter than that. There’s still variety in the taste but they definitely go more for quality than novelty.
Plus, you get a snack and a genuinely interesting read in Beer52’s Ferment magazine.
I do love some of the other beer delivery services but it just seems that Beer52 outdoes them all. They seem to know their stuff so much that they’ve successfully crossed over into the creating side. That takes something special.
