Monthly beer clubs are nothing new. They’re awesome things, with hard-working beer fans being paid to source new brews for you to discover. Sounds like a wonderful job!
Some of the subscription clubs work by sending you a massive variety of styles across the 12 bottles so you can find something you like. The potential problem is that, in discovering beers that you do like, you also discover styles that you don’t. I, for example, am not keen on wheat beers, extra sour beers or stout. Whenever you get a mixed case, however, they always have these in.
So what do you do when you figure out what style of beers you are keen on? Well, one place you could head to is the Your Pick page at Craft Metropolis, a beer merchant specialising in London breweries.
There’s a massive selection of beers to pick from. The sidebar allows you to filter by brewery, or by beer style. The above screenshot shows just some of the results for filtering by IPA. There’s loads!
Now you’re free to pick away. The Your Pick case has space for 12 bottles or cans. The handy little 12 space shopping trolley icons fill up with your selection as you go.
A quick checkout procedure, and you’re all done! A day or two later and you’ve got twelve delicious beers to enjoy.
For this review, I chose a selection of APA (American Pale Ales), Blonde Ales, IPAs and a couple of Golden and Ruby beers. Still a wide selection of beers that I’d never tried before, but nothing that I knew I wouldn’t like.
I like it when deliveries come with extras. Things like the Drop Stop wine pouring discs with Vitibox, for example. Craft Metropolis include a charming notepad with pen and a good old fashioned beer mat. Nice touches! But to the beers themselves…..
Even though Craft Metropolis restrict themselves to beers from London, that doesn’t mean that their range is excessively limited. I prefer beers at the lighter, hoppier end of the scale, so I was spoiled rotten. New World citrusy hops are well represented.
Golden / Ruby beers give malt lovers a bit more body to sink their mouths into. The Phoenix Rising Ruby was a pleasant discovery, with even a background hint of chocolate / caramel. Aurelio Golden Artisan Beer donates all profite to prostate cancer, which explains the design on their label.
These beers also show that breweries in London have their tongues firmly in their cheek when naming & packaging their beers. Life on Mars (a Red Ale), Mariana Trench (midway between a UK and American pale ale), Gorgon’s Alive and the Roadie Label emulating an Access All Areas pass.
Craft Metropolis know their stuff, being both passionate and knowledgeable. They’ve got a unique twist in a very busy market (beer subscriptions) in focusing solely on Beers from the Big Smoke. If you do wish for them to pick a selection of brews for you then their We Pick Box would be perfect. Twelve beers are £36 including delivery for Your Pick, or £34 for the We Pick Box. You can also get a one-off box as a trial / gift / special occasion if you like. Top deal!
I like them. I like their service, their presentation and their attitude. With 135 beers to pick from (as I type this), they definitely deserve checking out!

I have friends in London, and I have many Happy memories of visiting them there. On initial visits sightseeing was something which I did enjoy as part of my visits. Now in later years I have repeated some sightseeing with my fiancé. We did open top bus tour, and boat trip of the Thames was included. What a Wonderful April day, it was Beautifully sunny.
For me I love to see my friends who I care for dearly, my fiancé enjoyed meeting them. Whilst we made the most of being in the capital by enjoying the weather, seeing the landmarks etc.

After spending holidays in London for many years, sightseeing can become boring, but I’ve found I’m more interested in history as I’ve got older, so there is still always plenty to, looking at things from a different angle. I’ve become a lot more interested in food lately too so the street food markets are an absolute joy to visit 🙂

Fab review.
My hubby and son (and myself) all love a good beer, i’ve been tempted by the beer clubs before but i’ve been put off by either bad reviews or because I know we’d be getting beers that we don’t like. This concept sounds ideal, and if we do happen to pick a beer that none of us like we’ve only got ourselves to blame so it won’t put us off trying them out again.
Thanks Diane, we have tried hard to solve that exact problem. Not everyone likes every beer but trying new ones is part of the fun! Hope to be sending you some beer soon! Thanks for the kind words, Oli
The amount of greenery oddly enough.
40% of London is green space which makes it a lovely place to visit as around every corner there’s a little garden tucked away to enjoy a sandwich and some peace and quiet.
