Fred’s Box is another addition to an increasingly busy market – the Kid’s Monthly Subscription Box.

The angle in this case is breathing fresh life into your existing building block / Lego kits with new characters. They stress that it isn’t actually Lego, but it is fully compatible.

The process is fairly straightforward. Pick a subscription, select a gender (or unisex box), box size and you’re off.

The boxes get sent out towards the end of the month. As they say, “Every month we choose a different theme: from TV characters, to superheroes and even Santa or the Easter Bunny. It’s not only the theme that changes each month, either – each month is unique, filled with a fresh batch of awesomeness!

Freds Box

For this review, I was sent a large box to check out.

The box arrived pretty quickly. It said Fred’s Box on the wrapping, but Lily’s Box on the inside, which I took to mean that this was the girl’s box.

The figures themselves were wrapped in light paper and a shedload of orange packing paper.

Fred's Box

The selection of figures looked like a mix of Minions and Minion style characters. It may not actually be Lego, but it looks like it, although they do feel a little lighter.

Each character has it’s own accessory. One or two of these were weapons (axe / gun) which I wasn’t too keen on but I’m a little old-fashioned that way!

I told the girls there was a surprise for them in the post, but I didn’t tell them what it was. When I showed them the figures, their eyes did light up, and it did inspire them to go and get the building blocks out and be creative.

The cost for the large box is Β£16.50 per month. It may seem a little high but this is the premium box and, looking at comparitive prices, does seem to be the going rate for these figures (possibly a little cheaper).

If you’ve got a kid who loves his Lego / building blocks, then this may be something to consider for them. Prices start at Β£4.85 for one-off boxes and postage is free!
