We were recently invited to Sizzling Pub’s Lord Lounsdale for a family meal, and to also check out their Cider Makes Summer campaign.

Perfect, then, as my better half is a cider drinker and can let me know exactly what she thinks of them!

Before we’d even arrived, I was seriously surprised and impressed with Sizzling. I’d been checking out their menus online earlier in the day and couldn’t believe how low the prices were. Kids meals just £2.99 each, with additional starters for just 99p? In the main menu, a burger, salad, chips, BBQ sauce and a soft drink for £5.19? These are incredible prices by any measure.

We found a table, organised ourselves and placed the order. The starters arrived a couple of minutes later(!).

Garlic bread for the kids and a Nachos sharer for me and Emma. Eve said that she didn’t like ‘the burned bits’, but I didn’t mind the chargrilled taste. Our sharer was a huge portion and very moreish. In fact, I ate far too much.

Sizzling Pubs

Jenny had the kid’s Chicken Wrap meal, while Eve had the Turkey Spaghetti Bolognaise. The Bolognaise sauce had lots of carrots and courgette making for quite a healthy option. Jenny had fun making up her wrap, and, despite my fears, hardly spilt any of it.

Sizzling Pubs

For our mains, I ordered the Whiskey-Glazed Crispy Duck Skillet (Half a crispy duck  glazed in a whiskey sauce made with Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Whiskey, served with wraps, cucumber and more sauce). Emma ordered the Grilled Halloumi Sizzling Fajita (Soft flour tortilla wraps, peppers, onions, salsa, guacamole, sour cream, jalapenos and Cheddar cheese with grilled halloumi). Both main courses arrived sizzling on extremely hot dishes.

The duck portion, as the photo shows, was gigantic! Sticky, sweet duck, some moist and some crispy, and all of it perfect for the pancakes. The sauce on the duck was delicious. The sauce in the jug was a bit too syrupy, but the overall dish was very nice. Emma’s Halloumi dish was equally tasty with five fillings / sauces for the fajitas.

So, how was the cider?

Sizzling Pubs

There was a good range of ciders from Bulmers, Kopparberg, Smirnoff and Blind Pig. Like me, Emma is keen to discover new types, so she opted to try two of the Blind Pig ciders.

The first was Whiskey, Honey and Apple Flavoured cider. A hint of whiskey and a good lashing of honey made this Emma’s favourite and she’d definitely drink it again. The second was Bourbon & Blueberry flavoured cider. If you like your cider sweet and fruity, this will be right up your street. They also have a Rum & Poached Pear combo which will be worth seeking out.

The staff were brilliant, helpful and very friendly. The service was very quick.

Sizzling Pubs are all over the UK. Their cider festival runs until September 30th. #cidermakessummer
