Blog Posts of Note – 01

I was going to call this series ‘Blog Post of the Week’, but that’s a commitment I don’t know if I can make! Instead, I will write a post when I find some posts that make me want to write about them.

Here, then are my first Blog Posts of Note.

Ideas for the home

bpon-01-01Children’s Shared Bedrooms – Enchanted Pixie

This inspirational post looks at how kids who share a bedroom can have their own space within one room.

It’s a simple post with some great pictures. I’ve already stolen the curtain on a bottom bunk idea for Jenny. She keeps asking for me to make her bed into a tent.

There are good suggestions in here that get the brain ticking over. Look at how cool the beds in that first photo are.

A great post for getting the creative juices flowing.

bpon-01-025 ways to decorate your home on a budget – Fizzy Peaches

There’s loads of posts about decorating your house from bloggers, but this one stood out to me.

I am a big fan of upcycling and crafting. Home-made stuff will always win out to me when put up against the latest gadget. Few things are as satisfying as getting creative or a bout of DIY that doesn’t burn the house down.

The post contains a lot of brilliant links too. A lot of work has been put into this post. Bookmarked and recommended!

bpon-01-03Hasselback Potatoes Stuffed With Bacon – Glamorous Glutton

This is utter genius.

The roast potato is one of the tastiest things ever, if done right. The baked potato too is a thing of wonder. (My wife makes the best baked potatoes on the planet. I don’t know what she does with them, but it’s amazing. I digress).

Everyone who eats bacon loves bacon. This blog post takes two of the most mouth-wateringly drool-inspiring foods and combines them with this recipe. Why isn’t this a thing on every menu in the UK? It’s inspired.

Glamorous Glutton’s post is a post of note with no hesitation whatsoever.

bpon-01-04A Recipe for Cinnamon and Nutella Cake – Mum in a Nutshell

I don’t like chocolate cake. That’s enough for some people to make them print out this blog post just so they can burn it.

This, though, looks delicious. Cinnamon is warm, spicy and elevates cakes to heavenly status. Mum in a Nutshell’s recipe isn’t complex, but it does look amazing.

A thin slice of nutella is enough to make people who do like chocolate cake happy, while not alienating people like me.

Make it. Make loads of it. Then post some to me. 😀

bpon-01-05Up Helly Aa : Europe’s Largest Fire Festival – Elizabeths Kitchen Diary

Elizabeth is “quite possibly Britain’s most northerly food blogger”. Who better, then, to write about a fire parade in Lerwick?

The article has amazing pictures, a good write up of the history of the festival details of the night.

Just looking at the pictures is enough to warm you up. It’s a really atmospheric post – go take a look.

bpon-01-06Who needs real friends when you have online ones? – Slouching Towards Thatcham

Tim aka Slouching Towards Thatcham shares his thoughts on the changing nature of friendship given the amount of time we spend interacting with people online.

It’s a valid topic and an interesting read. We do interact differently. I ran a music message board which started about 15 years ago and, at it’s peak, had 16,000+ members. We met up and DJ’d together and travelled the world. I made friends through the internet that will be some of my best friends for life.

Hell, I met my wife online! You can tell a lot about someone from the way they write the emails. If they make you smile and you like the way they read, then you’re clicking on another level. The way that someone behaves online is like the way people behave when they’re driving a car – it brings out a different side to them.

An inciteful post.
