Saltaire is an International award-winning Brewery in Shipley, West Yorkshire. Formed in 2005, it has enjoyed brewing hand crafted ales since 2006, winning more than 70 trade awards.

I was sent six bottles of Saltaire’s finest beers to sample and write about. This is what I received….

Cascade Pale Ale

Saltaire Brewery

Cascade Pale Ale has an ‘intense citrus hop flavours’ but it’s not your typical APA. While I love new world hops, they can be easily misused leaving an acidic bitterness which even I find too much.

Luckily, the brewers here clearly know their ingredients and how to use & balance them. It’s slightly darker than what you might usually expect from an APA. The flavour is of a round-bodied summery ale with enough citrus to keep hoppy fanboys like me happy.

[Cascade Pale Ale – 4.8% – One star, Great Taste Awards, 2014]

Saltaire Pride

Saltaire Brewery

Pride is the lightest beer here. As a pale bitter, it’s extremely refreshing and easy to drink.

The taste is of light malt and a peppery bitter hop after-taste. A lovely spicy beer.

[ABV 3.9% – Silver medal, World Beer Awards, 2015]

SaltaireXS Belgian Red

Saltaire Brewery

Just released at that start of this month, this truly shows Saltaire’s ability to develop and master an imaginative and delicious receipe.

XS Belgian Red has a delightful dandelion & burdock aroma. The body is full, and has more than a passing red wine flavour. It’s a cracking 7.2% and a good choice for having a strong ale to relax to.

SaltaireXS Imperial IPA

Saltaire Brewery

Wow. How strong is this? Well, one 330ml bottles has 3.2 units in it. But what of the taste?

The name says it all – an XS Imperial IPA. The body is bold, heavy and syrupy. The taste has a glorious bittersweet wealth. For the connoisseur and the curious, and those who want to see what made this win the title of Europe’s best Imperial IPA.

[SaltaireXS Imperial IPA – 9.5% – Europe’s best Imperial IPA at the World Beer Awards 2015]

Saltaire Triple Chocoholic

Saltaire Brewery

There’s a lot of pride about this stout and quite right too. It smells and tastes of chocolate in huge amounts.

It’s a stout and sits at 4.8%. It’s smooth and, well, it’s like a stouty chocolate drink. Silky and resolute and winner of several big name awards. Well worth a taste!

[Triple Chocoholic Stout – 4.8% – Gold Medal, International Brewing Awards, 2015; Gold Medal, Great British Beer Festival, 2014.]

Saltaire Blonde

Saltaire Brewery

Saltaire’s best selling beer.

A straw coloured golden ale. Crisp, clean, light citrus and an edge of malty sweetness. Has a a long, hoppy, bitterness.

Summer’s evening drink to enjoy once the kids have been put to bed. Fresh!

[Saltaire Blonde – 4.0% – One star, Great Taste Awards, 2014]
