Sometimes you wake up thinking a competition win is very close. It happened to me at the beginning of last month. I told my wife I had a feeling I was going to win something and, sure enough, I got an email later that day telling me I’d won a TV.
I’m sure, though, that there must have been days when I had that feeling and won nothing. You don’t tell people about those days, though. It’s not the most entertaining story. “Hey – last week, I thought I was going to win. It was so spooky. I won nothing”.
If you’re going to be scientific about it, then you have to keep a note. Data is key. It’s also not sufficient to post “I think I’ll win today” because it’s an incomplete study. You also need to know about the days where you don’t have the winning feeling but win a prize anyway.
With this in mind, I’ve started tweeting one of the two following tweets every morning.
Today’s status : No winning feeling.
Today’s status : Winning feeling.
So far, I’ve had five of the first tweet and no wins. 100% record then.
As with all studies, the more subjects, the better. I’d be interested to hear from anyone else who wants to join in by tweeting one of the two tweets above and letting me know how they get on. This may well turn into a study worthy of the Lancet. 😀
