Taffy Mail offer a service to deliver a box of American candy to your door on a monthly subscription basis.
They sent me the Classic selection, which retails for £14.99 per month.
It’s a colourful, mixed box of goodies. There’s a good choice of chewy sweets, chocolate treats, fizzy sour things and crisps.
I’m not a chocolate / Oreo fan, but everyone else was (there was six of us sampling the box) and the creme filled Oreo Brownie went down a treat. Even more popular was the Almond Joy, which was like a Bounty, but with an almond on top. Yum.
Everyone described the Whoppers Milkshake as being like soft, strawberry flavoured maltesers. They were bursting with flavour and deliciously creamy.
The Sweet & Sour Skittles were a mix of super-fruit & bitter flavours, and contained a particularly mouth watering watermelon flavour (the green one). A great find! The kids loved the Pop Rocks which was like nitro-powered Space Dust. Extremely noisy! We weren’t too sure about the Grape Fanta, being a full sugar juice with a potent flavour.
My favourite treat in the box was the incredible Herr’s Deep Dish Pizza Flavoured Cheese Curls. I have *never* had crisps which so accurately replicated the flavour they were aiming for. Incredibly, it just felt like you’d eaten a bit of pizza. This Willy Wonka-esque piece of mastery was mind-blowing!
The chewy sweets were all pleasant enough. The Sweetarts had a mouth-watering Cherry Punch flavour but the Chewy Banana tasted quite artificial. The Mini Burgers and Cow Tales were loved by the wee ones. The Bit-O-Honey is an extremely chewy, rich tasting sweet – watch your fillings!
It’s not the healthy choice, obviously. It’s a box of sweets. What did you expect? It is a novelty buy, being able to buy things that you wouldn’t ordinarily get in your supermarket. American fruit flavoured sweets with a seem to have much more of a zing about them compared to UK alternatives. The discovery of the Herr’s Pizza Cheese Curls were worth the cost of the box alone!
This choice would be £14.99 including postage. That’s a little over £1 an item to your door, which I think is great value for imported goodies. There are alternative subscription options of a Lite box with 4-5 items (£7.49 per month) or an Extra box which has up to 20 sweets, a can of Soda and one premium item (£24.99 per month).
Taffy Mail is a lot of fun. We all had our own favourites and the novelty of the unknown was a good conversation point. I recommend it!
